What is ‘Chronic Pain’?

The definition of chronic pain is continuous, long term pain lasting more than 12 weeks after the time that healing would have occurred after trauma. It is estimated that over 28 million people in the UK are currently living with chronic pain.

The legal and medical issues surrounding chronic pain can be complex and demanding. It is a condition that is unfairly treated with suspicion by insurance companies and some doctors despite the significant and often debilitating symptoms.

Chronic pain may be nociceptive (damage to the body tissue) or neuropathic (damage to the nerves or a disorder of the nervous system).

How we can help

Warning: It is essential that if you have developed a chronic pain condition as a result of injuries suffered in an accident that was not your fault, that you instruct a Solicitor who has expertise and experience in chronic pain claims. We have handled many claims and frequently take over compensation claims from Solicitors who do not understand the condition which would result in under settlement of the claim.

Research reveals that the most common accidents resulting in the development of chronic pain include road traffic accidents (especially whiplash injuries), accidents at work, trips and falls and medical negligence.

Unlike other injuries, chronic pain symptoms may involve major adjustments affecting you, your family, your home, your employment and your healthcare needs. Such claims must be handled with the utmost care and expertise. This is where we can help. We will establish how best we can help and support you including an assessment of your rehabilitation needs, your transport needs, care and support needs, vocational and employment needs and financial needs.

We have expertise in claims involving:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
