At work you have the right to raise any concerns you have through your employer's formal grievance procedure. Your employer will have details of the procedure you must follow. The law encourages employers and employees to try to resolve their differences promptly and fairly. The Code of Practice on Grievances suggests the following steps :

• An employee must let their employer know the nature of a grievance
• The employer must hold a meeting
• The employer must allow the employee to be accompanied
• The employer must decide on appropriate action
• The employer must allow the employee to take the grievance further if not resolved
