Residential Conveyancing Fee Earner

An opportunity has arisen for a Residential Conveyancing Fee Earner to join our Residential Conveyancing Team here at Hodgkinsons Solicitors, Skegness.

Fee Earner – Residential Conveyancing

Hours of work:    

Full-time position Monday to Friday (inclusive) 9.00am – 5.00pm with one hour (unpaid) for lunch. 

Location:          

Skegness, with homeworking options available (after successful completion of the probationary period)

Salary:               

Dependent upon Experience.

Minimum Requirements

In order to be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 1 -3 years’ experience of handling your own sales and purchase cases from start to finish in a residential conveyancing department;
  • Drafting of Contracts, Land Registry and HMRC documents.
  • Experience of the following is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
  • New Build/Development Plot Purchases
  • Re-Mortgages
  • Transfers of Equity
  • Assents
  • Leasehold Properties
  • Shared Ownership Properties
  • Experience of working on a case-manager system

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will have a caseload of their own with specific targets and KPIs to meet. Dependent upon experience, they may assist other Fee Earners by working closely with them, directly undertaking different aspects of that person’s work.

Fee Earners are expected to be largely self-servicing, producing their own letters, file notes, documents etc.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of:

  • Attending meetings and negotiations with clients and other professionals, preparing accurate notes of meeting, recording time and proactively actioning any follow up steps in a timely manner;
  • Handling initial enquiries and instructions by telephone and proactively dealing with such; 
  • Advising clients on the law and legal issues relating to their case, either directly or under Fee Earner supervision as directed;
  • Drafting letters and documents tailored to the client's individual needs and corresponding directly with clients and opposing Solicitors/3rd Parties, ensuring accuracy of information and grammatical content sent out;
  • Preparing documents for the Land Registry, relevant 3rd Parties;
  • Negotiating with clients and 3rd Parties to secure agreed objectives;
  • Researching and analysing documents, regulations and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure;
  • Accurately time-recording; 
  • Pro-actively working with your line Manager in relation to- control of work in progress, billing and maximising recovery of fees in order to meet your KPI targets;
  • Deputise for colleagues when reasonably required to do so;
  • Performing fee earning work accurately, reliably and in accordance with the Company’s quality risk management procedures;
  • Be effective in developing new work from existing clients and proactive in seeking new clients for yourself and other departments;
  • Support marketing initiatives, including attending Company functions/net-working events/team-building events;
  • Maintain and nurture an appropriate network of contacts and referrers and endeavour to promote the Company in your professional and personal life;
  • Keep up to date with changes and developments in your area of law via department meetings/courses/updates and ensuring compliance with CPD requirements if appropriate;
  • Comply with the rules and guidance set out in the Office Manual and associated Policies;
  • Have a good understanding of SRA Regulations and Compliance responsibilities.
