Welcome Maddie Lee to the Hodgkinsons Team!

It is with great pleasure that we announce the second of our two newest additions to the workforce, Maddie Lee! As our newest apprentice in the Wills and Probate Department, we look forward to encouraging Maddie’s personal development and helping her become an asset to the Hodgkinsons Team. We asked Maddie some questions to help you get to know her, and this is what she said:

Welcome Maddie Lee to the Hodgkinsons Team!

Why did you want to become an Apprentice?

When I started thinking about my career, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I had tried various different jobs and I did not enjoy any of them. I had studied various different subjects but I couldn’t see myself doing any of these jobs once I had qualified.  My previous studies largely involved theory based teaching and I found it really difficult to apply the theory to practice. I had started thinking about an apprenticeship because I would be able to have a hands-on learning approach and I would be learning on the job. This sounded like a good opportunity for me to learn new skills in a way that suited me better and would set me up to have a great career in the future.

Why do you choose to work and study part-time?

I chose to work and study part time because I believe starting my career this way would give me a better foundation of skills and knowledge to apply to my job. Learning on the job was something I had never done before and having experienced full time study (something that did not work out for me in the end) I thought that going for this new approach might suit me better. I also believe that full time study wouldn’t have given me the confidence, skills, and knowledge that I have already gained in this short time from being in the workplace. I had done full time study in the past at college and university and found during my work experience placements, applying theoretical knowledge to real life situations is very different and a lot harder.

What do you hope to achieve through your Apprenticeship?

I hope to achieve new skills, new knowledge, and more confidence through my apprenticeship. At the end of my apprenticeship, I hope to come out with a great qualification and the skillset to provide me with a lifelong career that opens up plenty of opportunities for me.

Why did you choose Hodgkinsons?

I chose to apply to Hodgkinsons as I had heard positive things about them in the past. I believe that Hodgkinsons will be able to provide me with the support and teaching I need to meet my career goals. In the past I’ve had family instruct Hodgkinsons Solicitors, and thinking about the most recent visit which was about a year ago, I heard that everyone involved was empathetic, kind and very helpful and so with this in mind I chose to apply for the apprenticeship here as I wanted to be able to work with a team that had a good reputation and a positive approach to all situations and helping people in some very distressing times.

Marie Leary, Director, commented: “We look forward to having Maddie on the Wills and Probate Team and we are thrilled that she has chosen to join us. Over the next year we will continue to assist Maddie as she develops a whole new skillset, as well as provide support in her part-time study”
