Over the upcoming weeks, Hodgkinsons’ team of helpers will be working together to build up boxes of essentials and gifts which will then be donated to the homeless people within Lincolnshire. This Christmas, Hodgkinsons are proudly supporting the East Coast Homeless Outreach (ECHO), a community group who help homeless people throughout Lincolnshire including Skegness, Horncastle, Louth and Grimsby.
ECHO is committed to helping those living on the streets. In Grimsby and Lincoln, ECHO provide a “street kitchen” service which serves up to 40 people every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday night. The kitchen operates with the help of food donations from local supermarkets and small businesses. Volunteers of ECHO also frequently collect donated goods and deliver them to homeless people or visit those living on the streets to simply check up on their wellbeing.
From sleeping bags, to clothes and toiletries, the Team will be donating anything that can support those setting up home on the streets. Everyday is difficult for homeless people, but especially at Christmas time. The cold and dark nights are most unpleasant even without the thought of being vulnerable and alone.
By supporting people who are sleeping rough, it may give them the motivation and encouragement they need to realise their own potential and get on a route away from homelessness that will bring about lasting change. At Hodgkinsons we believe that everyone has the chance to be part of the community they live in and feel connected to society, so they are not socially excluded or isolated.
Homelessness is very complicated, with a wide range of causes requiring a bespoke solution. It is amazing how much difference one person’s contribution can make to the lives of those less fortunate.
