The Little Princess Trust receives an estimated 4,500 donations of hair per year, and Amanda Smith, a Personal Injury Lawyer here at Hodgkinsons Solicitors, will soon become one of them!

Amanda Smith Goes to Great Lengths for The Little Princess Trust

Amanda has signed up to cut a significant amount of her hair off so that it can be donated to this exceptional charity. In the run up to the haircut, which is set to take place in August 2019, Amanda is making it her mission to raise as much money as possible which she can also donate to the charity.

Since 2006 the Little Princess Trust has been providing real hair wigs to children and young people. To date the charity have provided 7,500 wigs to those aged up to 24 years old across the UK and Ireland using hair donated by the public and celebrities alike. Kate Middleton, Holly Willoughby and Harry Styles are just a few of the many famous supporters who have donated their hair to this charity. The Little Princess Trust also offers grants for research projects which explore kinder, more effective treatments for children’s cancer which have lesser side effects. Through the generosity and work of volunteers and fundraisers like Amanda, the charity has awarded over £2.8 million to 34 hand-selected projects.

Any hair that is donated is required to be seven inches long, in a good condition and of a natural colour. Today we have carried out the first measurement and we can reveal that Amanda’s hair is already 13 inches long and in perfect condition!

Amanda Smith commented: “I have always wanted to do something personal for a charity, and as The Little Princess Trust is so close to my heart, it seems like the perfect fit. My hair is very precious and personal to me, but it will grow back. Cutting my hair is insignificant compared to what these children have to go through, so I am eager to help where I can.”

For a child or young person who is suffering with hair loss due to an illness, receiving a wig can provide a boost in their wellbeing and confidence which is important in encouraging them to carry on fighting. The wigs mean much more than vanity, they can transform the lives of child cancer patients by allowing them to look and feel like themselves throughout the most difficult point of their lives. For some of those suffering, it can mean the world.
