Team Hodgkinsons, which consisted of four employees: Gemma Middleton, Travan Chandler, Richard Strange and Kira Young, spent their Saturday night in the jungle to raise vital funds for the charity. In the last three months Team Hodgkinsons have been collecting sponsors through their Just Giving pages and by hosting in-office fundraising events, to support them on this challenging experience!
During their weekend the team were required to put their survival skills to the test in order to survive and escape the jungle! From learning how to start a fire to foraging, the team were definitely pushed out of their comfort zones. By putting their teamwork and survival skills to the test the team successfully completed a various range of tasks such as:
- Navigating their own way to Camp using only trails around the woodlands.
- Learning how to start and maintain a fire.
- Building two shelters using only materials found in the woodlands, such as sticks!
- Foraging for food and water.
- Learning how to make string from plants by using nettles they had to collect.
- Cooking their dinner from scratch using left over nettles to make pesto and handcrafting fresh pasta!
- Eating a cup of mealworms in order to win treats!
- Designing and crafting bows out of woodland materials to fend off any creatures of the night.
- Collecting water from the nearby stream and grounding natural substances from the woodlands in order to make their morning cup of coffee.
Richard Strange commented: “This challenge was certainly a different and exciting way to raise money for charity! This weekend proves that there are many different ways to fundraise. Whilst it has been a challenging experience, the whole team thoroughly enjoyed it. I think that it is fantastic that St Barnabas offer opportunities to raise money in ways that you may have never considered before.”
By working as a team and keeping the spirits high, despite the weather, Team Hodgkinsons successfully endured their night out in the jungle! Through this challenge Team Hodgkinsons have successfully raised £469.45! This is a significant amount of money which will contribute to the future care provided by St Barnabas Hospice Lincolnshire. St Barnabas relies upon the generous donations from the local community to be able to provide those living with terminal or life limiting illnesses in Lincolnshire, with the care they deserve. We would like to thank Team Hodgkinsons for devoting their personal time to raising money for such a deserving charity!
