In less than two weeks, Team Hodgkinsons, which consists of four employees from various departments of Hodgkinsons, will participate in the ‘Wild Thing Bushcraft Challenge’ in support of St Barnabas Hospice Lincolnshire. Kira Young, Gemma Middleton, Travan Chandler and Richard Strange will partake in this unique fundraiser on 15th - 16th June 2019. To kick off the challenge, the team will be escorted to a top-secret location in the Lincolnshire Jungle. The team will be deserted and left to their own means for two days and one night with only their survival skills to see them through. In order to win and be freed, the four must work as a team to demonstrate typical survival skills such as building a shelter and making fires for warmth. During their time in the jungle they will be required to compete against other teams in various challenges in order to win access to necessities such as food. Such challenges may include navigating around their new terrain to designing weapons!
To support their fundraising goal, the team held an in-house day of fundraising on Friday 31st May. The day consisted of various initiatives including a jungle themed bake sale, raffle, a quiz which was created and hosted by Richard Strange, and a game of ‘Guess how many sweets are in the jar’! Through the kind contribution of other employees, these four fundraisers raised a total of £216.65! All the money raised from Friday’s event will be split evenly amongst Team Hodgkinsons so that it can contribute to their individual fundraising pots for the challenge.
Team Hodgkinsons have pledged to raise £200.00 per member in the run up to the challenge. By raising £800.00 from this one challenge, Hodgkinsons can provide St Barnabas Hospice Lincolnshire with vital funds which will contribute to the annual running of the charity and allow them to continue providing the exceptional level of care they are renowned for.
