DX is a private postal service which is used to transmit legal correspondence. DX is a private service that works as a document exchange. This dedicated mailbox network allows institutions of the legal profession to connect with other businesses. Through this private network mail, packets and parcels can be delivered through an end-to-end service which provides firms with an alternative option when sending official papers, rather than having to rely on external post companies such as the Royal Mail. Whilst correspondence between Solicitors and Clients is often sent via external postage companies, DX is predominately used for correspondence between other institutions, this may include Court filings, deeds and Orders between Solicitors, Barristers, Courts, Insurance Companies and Financial Institutions.
In recent years and even more so in recent months in light of remote working, the legal industry has adapted to the digital era. Email is now the preferred form of communication between legal institutions, including the Courts. Here at Hodgkinsons Solicitors we have taken the decision to remove our DX service and to use email as our main method of contact. The reasoning behind this is that unlike DX where a letter must be sent before 5pm to reach the recipient the next day, email is instant and they can be sent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Removing the need to post a physical document is a significant step in the movement to becoming paperless as it reduces the environmental impact of our law firm. This is the next step in improving our carbon footprint and to becoming even more environmentally friendly, following the installation of our solar panels and charging point for our 100% electric company car.
As our main form of correspondence will be via email which usually consists of sensitive and private it is that we have a protected email system in place which has the highest level of security. At Hodgkinsons Solicitors we have partnered with Egress Switch, an email encryption software which enables our Solicitors, Third Parties and Clients to correspond through a secure email system, so you can be rest assured that your paperwork is in the safest hands.
To maximise the security of our cyber system we have a certified firewall in place which protects our devices. This certification is known as the ‘Cyber Essentials Accreditation’ which certifies that our system is safe and trusted. This accreditation provides reassurance that our email system is secure, authentic and trustworthy and guarantees that we, as a Company, take extra measures to protect any sensitive data we receive or send.
