For many years Amanda has been dedicated to growing her long locks, but the time has come for it to be cut off! On Friday 30th August, over 13 inches of hair will be cut and sent as a donation to charity. The Little Princess Trust are a charity who not only conduct research into Childhood Cancer, but who also provide real hair wigs to children and young adults living with illnesses such as Cancer or Alopecia, which often result in hair loss.
The hair is not the only thing that Amanda will be donating. Over the previous months, Amanda has been devoted to raising money for her charity of choice. By hosting in-house fundraising events and through the generosity of others, Amanda has already raised 74% of her fundraising target!
The chop will take place within a day of in-house fundraising which will include a bake sale, a dress down day and a raffle, in order to raise as much money as possible for this special cause. However, the raffle will not be any ordinary raffle, as employees will be able to win the chance to cut off Amanda’s hair! We hope that by hosting this day of fundraising, Amanda will exceed her original fundraising target of £500.00!
By raising this significant sum of money, Amanda will provide a contribution into future Childhood Cancer research, whilst helping to provide a wig to boost the confidence of a child or young person who is suffering with hair loss due to an illness. Whilst a wig cannot help to cure the illness, it can help to transform someone’s life by allowing them to feel more confident and by boosting their wellbeing during what will be one of the most difficult points of their lives.
Amanda Smith commented: “Hair can easily sometimes be taken for granted, but for some, it can mean the world. I have always had thick, long hair, so if I can share that with someone else who needs it, why not! The hair cut does seem daunting, but the fact that I am doing it for a fantastic cause completely outweighs that.”
