St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice is a cause close to the heart of Sam Sleight, an Employment Lawyer here at Hodgkinsons, which is why in April, he pledged to cycle 400 miles throughout May to raise vital funds to support the future of this fantastic charity. Everyday throughout May, Sam cycled an average of 14 miles, often accompanied by his friend or dad. Despite the horrible weather the country experienced throughout May, Sam remained dedicated to the cause at all times!
Through his sheer commitment and determination, Sam successfully raised £810.00 for his chosen charity, by cycling a total of 438.3 miles. Initially, Sam had set a goal to cycle 400 miles and raise £400.00 but within two weeks of his challenge Sam had exceeded his goal of raising £400.00! In light of this, he raised his fundraising goal to £600.00 which he also surpassed. Sam not only exceeded his fundraising goal, but also his mileage goal! On Thursday 27th May, Sam completed his 400 miles, giving him 4 days left to complete even more miles which he ultimately accomplished, adding an extra 38.3 miles on to his total!
The money Sam has raised will make a huge difference to this fantastic, local charity. Every penny raised will help St Barnabas to continue to provide palliative care to those living with life-limiting and terminal illnesses in Lincolnshire. Did you know:
- £34.00 funds a physiotherapy session for one patient, therefore, Sam has raised enough to fund 23 physiotherapy sessions.
- £20.00 allows St Barnabas to care for a patient in their own home for one hour, therefore, Sam has raised enough to fund 40 hours of patient care.
- St Barnabas support over 10,500 people across Lincolnshire every year.
Sam Sleight commented: “Having never taken on a challenge like this before, I did not know what to expect, but the support I received from my family, friends, Hodgkinsons, and also St Barnabas has helped no end. It really kept me motivated to keep going through rain and wind. Physically it has been tough, but it has been great mentally. Dedicating myself to cycle everyday meant that I made time to get outside and get some headspace, which was particularly important throughout lockdown. I am very passionate about raising awareness and funds for St Barnabas, as I have such a personal connection with them. My challenge, although it was for a month, was only temporary, and therefore we need to continue fundraising so that St Barnabas can continue to provide the fantastic care they do, indefinitely. The care they provide is outstanding, and fundraising will allow those who need it, to benefit from such care. Knowing that you are taking part for such a worthy cause, and to help the lives of others, really does take the pain away. I never cycled as much before this challenge, but now I have found something I love doing. I would urge anyone who can, to get out and get on their bike to make themselves feel good, and to do good for the local community.”
Hodgkinsons Solicitors are incredibly proud of Sam for taking on this challenge, and the Team are thrilled to have supported him along the way. That being said, there is still time to donate if you wish to do so, just click here to visit his Just Giving page.
