‘Walk All Over Cancer’ Challenge
Maria Parker, Matrimonial Executive at Hodgkinsons Solicitors, Skegness, walked 5 miles everyday throughout the month of March 2021 to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. This charity is close to Maria’s heart, and the Team here at Hodgkinsons are proud to have supported her on her mission. Not only has Maria successfully walked over 310,000 steps, but she has also raised £500.00!
Throughout the month of March, Maria walked 5 miles a day to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. In recent months, Maria has developed Arthritis in her feet, which unfortunately made walking 10,000 steps every day for a month, all the more challenging, yet she remained dedicated to the cause despite the pain she faced. Through this initiative, Maria successfully raised £500.00 for this fantastic charity.
Maria joined the thousands of steppers across the nation who came together in March 2021 to join the fight against cancer. Every step taken and pound donated, contributed to helping Cancer Research UK to reach their goals. By 2034 Cancer Research UK aim to reach their goal of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer. Fundraising has enabled consistent progress and the discovery of new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, and in result, cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. It is through the generosity, commitment, and selflessness of people like Maria, that results will improve even faster.
The money Maria has raised will make a fantastic difference. Did you know that:
- £5 can kit out a Cancer Research lab with the essential chemicals they need for day-to-day experiments.
- £25 can fund a cancer nurse for 1 hour, to offer confidential support and guidance to people affected by cancer.
- £50 can buy a scientific sieve, which are vital for revealing clues about beating cancer.
Just imagine what £500.00 could do!
When we asked Maria why she chose to take on this challenge, this is what she said: “I decided to do this as my beautiful and brave friend had such fantastic care in her battle against cancer. Her journey is amazing and encouraging for anyone facing this disease. Let’s help other people like my friend have the treatments needed and research to hopefully one day rid the world of the word ‘cancer’.”
Accompanying Maria on her daily trek, was her pup, Belle. Belle is a miniature labradoodle “lockdown” pup, who loves to go on long walks, and thoroughly enjoyed accompanying Maria each and every day.
